Talk UO

Talk was initiated in Fall 2008 as an archival project that aims to explore and share the diversity and culture of the University of Oregon through video interviews with students, staff, and faculty. Each participant is asked a variety of questions focused on a specific theme — travel, celebration, habits, philosophy, discomfort or words. Every interview is concluded by probing the participant, “Tell us something you love, something you’ve lost, and something you fear.” The diverse answers collected are incredible, and the connections drawn between a vast number of participants are astounding.

Talk is powered by Allen Hall Advertising, the University of Oregon’s student-run advertising agency. When the project was initially launched, I joined the Talk team as a designer and creative strategist. In 2010, I moved up the ranks and accepted a position as co-manager of the account. 2010 was a year of transition and reinvention for Talk, as we forged partnerships with a variety of other campus organizations, including the Office of Admissions, the American English Institute, and the Cultural Forum. We also presented the project at the National Academic Advising Association’s regional conference in Calgary, where we showcased Talk as a successful example of student-initiated community building.
